The calender said that Spring was supposed to start this week but so far I haven't seen much of it here in Norway. It's still cold and snowy outside, ugh. All the more important to make being inside fun and colorful with flowers and good food!
Jackson Pollock. Convergence. 1952. Source: http://arthistory.about.com/ |
When it comes to modern art, there's often the thought that "I could have done that". Well, in fact, you didn't and it's usually not as easy as it appears. So the case when I attempted to recreate this painting by the abstract expressionist painter Jackson Pollock (1912 - 1956). I didn't feel I got anywhere near the intensity, complexity and emotion I see radiate from this painting in my feeble toast version. But it's still recognizable, and that's what matters to me. Perhaps I learnt a lesson when it comes to art too.
I have a new quartely column in a Norwegian literary magazine called Bokvennen (literally the Book Friend), which is out in a large issue focused on crime literature in time for Easter. In this issue I shared my recipe for scones accompanied with the "poisoned" tea a la Miss Marple from the queen of crime literature, Agatha Christie. I will present food from famous books 4 times a year.
My new addiction is healthy breakfast cookies made of just mashed banana and quick oats (and your mix-ins of choice). I posted the recipe earlier this week and played around with the cookies for the Instagram post.
The great Danish food magazine Copenhagen Food contacted me a while back and wondered whether I'd do an Easter inspired egg food art recipe for them. Now it's out in the magazine, and looks good! It's a basic deviled egg recipe where the filling has been put inside and decorated with pieces of black olive and a carrot beak.
On the last day of the week, we took the trip to Mount Fuji on Honshu Island in Japan together. There the cherry trees were blossoming. I hope you'll have a wonderful Easter week!
Love,
Ida
